SimMan 3G Arrives in Northwest Oklahoma

SimMan PhotoLast summer, Tara Thomas, Business and Industry Health Services Director at Northwest Technology Center began work on a grant that would fund a “simulation mannequin” better known as the SimMan 3G.  The mannequin would be used by various healthcare and educational entities in the area.  “We started writing the grant after years of consideration.” stated Thomas.  “A grant using the money from the Oklahoma lottery funded the project. The only other simulation mannequin in this area is located at Northwestern’s Ketterman Laboratory in Enid.  They have three of the mannequin’s on-site at that facility. The travel time required by students, rescue and safety workers from Alva or Fairview to the Enid facility made it difficult to engage in frequent training utilizing the simulation mannequins.”

“The most important thing in having access to the SimMan 3G and simulation is that students will gain skill competency and confidence before entering a real clinical setting.  This will allow the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills before they are actually working with patients in a healthcare facility.” said Thomas.
